The Bachelor of Emergency Management aims to develop a practical as well as theoretical base for those people who have responsibilities in the field of Emergency Risk Management.

The course is designed to meet the needs and interests of a variety of client groups ranging from public bodies concerned with the protection of life and property such as local government, the police, fire, ambulance, state emergency services and community and health services to a myriad of private sector groups (e.g. the insurance industry, manufacturing industry).

Research has shown that the amount of damage being caused to communities around the world from both natural and technological hazards is increasing steadily. The management of natural and technological disasters has been formalised through government legislation establishing emergency management organisations which must develop and maintain community counter-disaster preparedness and plans at all levels of the community.

To enable our communities to become more resilient and sustainable from an emergency management perspective, we must ensure that they continue to develop their emergency risk management capabilities. The development and conduct of emergency management activities (e.g. hazard and risk assessments, emergency management plan development, operations management strategy development, community recovery strategy development) will assist in reversing the hazard trend by minimising the risk of hazards occurring and the consequences when they do occur. Such activities are an essential aspect of comprehensive emergency management practice for communities.

CSU’s Bachelor of Environmental Science provides you with the ability to address a range of complex environmental problems including those associated with land degradation, loss of biodiversity, climate change and poor water management.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Environmental Science are employed by government departments, environmental consulting companies, and a range of other organisations as environmental scientists and managers, Landcare officers, catchment management officers, land and water officers or ecologists.

Graduates use their skills and knowledge to plan and manage environmental restoration and rehabilitation projects, undertake river and stream management programs, encourage sustainable agricultural enterprises, and conserve natural ecosystems. They use their expertise in the physical, biological and social sciences to restore damaged environments and create healthy and resilient ecosystems.

CSU's Bachelor of Equine Science course aims to support graduates to develop substantial skills and knowledge in relation to the modern management of horses, underpinned by a strong education in science and scientific method.

CSU's Bachelor of Equine Science can be studied as a three-year full-time program on the Wagga Wagga Campus, or by distance education as a part-time, six-year program.

Students who complete the course will develop substantial skills and knowledge in relation to the modern management of horses, underpinned by a strong education in science and scientific method.

Commencing with a foundation of anatomy, physiology, chemistry and biology, the curriculum has particular strengths in the study of equine nutrition, reproduction and performance with the flexibility of electives to accommodate specific interests.

The course also has a strong emphasis on practical and life skills and is designed to prepare students for a successful career working with horses and the horse industry in business, teaching and research.

CSU's Bachelor of General Studies (Science) provides students flexible study options with access to a diverse pool of subjects that teach a wide range of knowledge and skills. The aim of this approach is to increase the student's potential to meet a wider range of vocational needs in an increasingly broad variety of science environments. The course allows students flexibility in the construction of a program of study that they consider will best meet their future employment needs.

The Bachelor of General Studies (Science) draws upon the extensive portfolio of subjects already developed by CSU's Faculty of Science as well as the subject offerings of other CSU faculties and any tertiary study previously undertaken.

Bachelor of Health and Rehabilitation Science graduates will develop a holistic approach to health and rehabilitation, inclusive of physiological, anatomical, psychological and socio-cultural factors. Become a skilled, flexible and accountable healthcare worker capable of meeting the challenges and future needs of the Australian healthcare system.

This three-year degree will enable students to develop comprehensive knowledge and skills that support generic practice in a range of health settings. Students will develop:

An understanding of the principles of rehabilitation

Extensive knowledge of anatomy and how the body functions

Knowledge about human development

An understanding of psychology and sociology

Extensive knowledge of disease and the medications used to treat disease

Skills in how to run a health education/community development program

Knowledge of exercise science, including musculoskeletal and cardiovascular functioning

Skills and knowledge in communication and group work

A sound foundation for entry into professional health degrees.

Students may choose to exit the course with the University Certificate in Health and Rehabilitation Science upon satisfactory completion of the first seven subjects (64 subject points). Study to this level will provide students with an introduction to generic health concepts and skills.
Students may choose to exit the course with the Associate Degree in Health and Rehabilitation Science upon satisfactory completion of the first 14 subjects (128 subject points). Study to this level will provide students with generic health knowledge and skills that enable graduates to engage in supervised practice in a range of settings.
