Show More First introduced in 2002, the Bachelor of Aviation Management developed out of the Aviation Management major (1994) in the Bachelor of Aviation. Unlike the Bachelor of Aviation, the Bachelor of Aviation Management was designed to provide human factor, aviation psychology, and aviation management competencies particularly relevant for candidates entering the aviation industry, or for those already employed in aviation (with or without professional licences) but with no previous tertiary qualifications. The goal for most of these candidates is to obtain a dedicated aviation qualification which will prepare them for a management role within an organisation, or to provide the academic disciplines which will enable them to be more effective in that role. Some professional aviation qualifications may be eligible for cross-credit into the degree. Show More Accounting is still the language of business, but the business environment is undergoing radical change, as is the role of accountants in the business environment. Particularly in the corporate sector, accountants are increasingly required to take on a business perspective rather than the historical functional role. For this reason the Accountancy programme has been designed so you can combine a comprehensive range of both accounting and non-accounting electives with some required core accounting papers in your degree. However, if you are certain you wish to follow a professional accounting career, you should consider the Bachelor of Accountancy programme as an alternative to this BBS Accountancy major. The programme provides a vehicle for you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the process of identifying and communicating financial and non-financial information important to today’s organisations. It will assist you in making informed judgements from available information and resources. In addition to essential accounting skills, students who successfully complete the BBS Accountancy major at Massey University develop interpersonal, computer, and business communication skills. Entry RequirementsThere are no special entry requirements for the Accountancy programme beyond those that qualify you for study at the University. However, competence in English is essential. If you are not confident in this subject you are recommended to undertake additional study prior to enrolling, or attend a Massey University summer programme in English. Other FeesEnrolment Fee - $51.40 (NZD) Student Services Levy - $237.50 (NZD) Massey Foundation Fee -$22.40 (NZD) Distance Learning overseas venue fee - $214.20 (NZD) Textbooks Incidental Unit Fees |

Show More When you surf the Internet, you are using the largest information system in the world. Most of the technology that makes the Internet work, such as Web browsers and Web servers, was invented in 1991. Since then the technology has swept the world, finding its way into millions of homes and businesses. The Web is just one among many information technologies that will affect your life. The challenge for businesses and other groups of people who work together is to take up and use these technologies in a sensible way. When you study Business Information Systems, you learn how to discover what information people need to do their job, how they need it presented, and when they need it. We also teach you team skills and require you to work together in teams on some problems, because this is the way information systems are developed for businesses and other organisations. You also learn about e-commerce, the impacts that information systems can have on businesses and other organisations, and the specialised management skills that relate to information technology and systems. In contrast to computer science and information technology, which stress the underlying technologies, this programme encompasses human and organisational aspects of the use of computer-based information systems. We encourage you to study Business Information Systems along with another specialisation. You can choose to study Business Information Systems together with other areas such as accountancy, finance, geography, planning, computer science, information technology, management, or statistics. Information Systems professionals are creative people working at the cutting edge of innovation, and you will be taught by people with real-world experience. Entry RequirementsThere are no special entry requirements for the Business Information Systems programme beyond those that qualify you for study at the University. If you have enjoyed economics, history, music, or mathematics with statistics then you will have already developed some of the broad analytical skills that you will use in Business Information Systems. Because so much of information systems is about working with people, strong communication skills are also important. And, of course, some hands-on experience with computers for information gathering, data analysis, or programming will give you a boost with your Business Information Systems studies too. Show More Communication is the key to career and business opportunities in an increasingly technological and global community. Communication is a vital and rewarding discipline that will help you understand and function successfully within the complex modern working environment. Massey University teaches a comprehensive programme in communication that combines skills in managing new technology, speaking, writing, and business presentations with a sound theoretical base. Communication students learn the "body of knowledge" and how to write effective letters, reports, and memos. The courses explore theory and practice across a number of domains. Papers include study of the news media, business writing, professional presentations, communication technology, interpersonal communication, organisational communication, cross cultural communication, and public relations. The Communication team use a wide range of teaching strategies to inform, stimulate and develop student learning and ability. These include roleplaying, writing portfolios, interviewing, presentations, and video conferencing. Students will also create web pages, communication plans for businesses, and short videos. Students can take papers as part of the major in Communication. They are also in demand from students of other disciplines, especially marketing, media studies, information systems, and human resource management. Communication papers are well known for their practical emphasis and for adding value to other courses. As communication skills are vital in any career, Communication also makes a great complementary major for those looking to complete a double major in the BBS. Staff involved have real-world experience in the areas they teach. They also value close and continuing links with businesses such as Sport Manawatu, Wanganui District Council, New Zealand Police, Senate Communications, Literacy Aotearoa, and Te Puna Matauranga o Whanganui. We appreciate the diverse backgrounds which students bring to their learning and encourage them to share knowledge and experience. While you are encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning, staff are all strongly supportive and are here to help.
