Show More The Master of Science in Counseling Psychology program in the Online and Professional Studies (OPS) division of California Baptist University (CBU) is designed to prepare students to enter the field of either marriage and family therapy or professional clinical counseling with a firm understanding of psychological science from a distinctly Christian worldview. Graduates will receive the education and training necessary to assess and treat individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing relational difficulties, and meets the current requirements for licensure in the state of California as a marriage and family therapist or licensed professional clinical counselor. A distinguishing feature of the MS in Counseling Psychology program within the OPS division of CBU is its focus on meeting the needs of the “new normal” generation of graduate students seeking clinical knowledge and training—non-traditional students who want to become competent clinicians while balancing work and family. Therefore, the classes within the OPS MS program are offered in one of two formats—a virtual hybrid format involving synchronous high definition online interactions and an asynchronous online format that allows students to work at their own pace—utilizing a convenient, accelerated schedule with the most current technology to support live interactions between students and faculty. To be sure, the OPS MS program brings together several salient ingredients in order to enhance and strengthen graduate-level clinical training—weekly peer interactions that allow burgeoning clinicians to develop crucial interpersonal skills in the context of supportive relationships; the cultivation of leadership qualities and clinical knowledge via ongoing professional socialization; live online meetings between faculty and students to offer important mentoring experiences; a convenient schedule for busy working adults with families who want to better their future; and a flexible, blended delivery model of student learning that is more effective than solely face-to-face or entirely online delivery mediums (Cynkar, 2007; Munsey, 2008; Murray, 2002; U.S. Department of Education, 2010).
