Show More The MSc Acoustics has two pathways: Audio Applications and Environmental Applications. Audio pathway The generation, manipulation and reproduction of high quality audio signals are core elements of the rapidly expanding communication, entertainment and sound engineering industry. The audio pathway aims to train graduates in the acoustic aspects of audio such as digital signal processing, microphone and loudspeaker design, architectural acoustics and sound reproduction. The Acoustics Research Centre is a lead partner in the BBC Audio Research Partnership working closely with BBC R&D at MediaCityUK. Environmental pathway The environmental pathway is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to work in environmental acoustics, including environmental noise consultancy, noise control in industry and acoustic engineering research.
The course is accredited by the Institute of Acoustics which provides external validation of the course quality. Entry RequirementsA first or second-class degree in a numerate engineering or science discipline. All applicants must have a significant grounding in engineering mathematics For informal discussions about your suitability for this course, please contact the postgraduate admissions tutor, Dr David Waddington.
Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course. Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
English Language Requirements International applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5) is proof of this.
International Students - Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) International Students are required by the Home Office and/or the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate before they begin studying their course. You may need to obtain an ATAS Certificate before you come to the UK in order for you to comply with Home Office regulations. Other Fees |

Show More Graduate study in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics (ME-EM) offers graduate students a wide range of challenging and rewarding courses of study. The master of science often has a strong application in industry or serves as the basis for the PhD. Current Michigan Tech undergraduate students can earn a MS degree with just a single year of study beyond the BS through the Accelerated Master's Program. Five key areas of research include: Advanced Power Systems: Critical technologies for clean, efficient, and sustainable power systems; and modeling of energy transport and conversion processes. Multi-scale Sensors and Systems: Research includes nanofabrication and characterization, microfabrication processes, and bio-nanotechnology.
Multidisciplinary Engineering Dynamic Systems: Mechanics of Multi-scale Materials: Constitutive modeling of biomaterials, cellular materials, biological tissues, and artificial organs. Space Systems: Innovative components, systems, and architectures for micro and nanosatellite applications. Entry RequirementsTo be considered for admission to the Graduate School as a degree-seeking student, the applicant must be - the recipient of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution; - adequately prepared for advanced study in the chosen field of specialization, as demonstrated by the previous program of study and the scholastic record; and - recommended for admission by the head of the program or concentration - Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or better on a 4.0 scale

Show More The PhD in Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics is a research intensive program, which plays a key role in achieving environmental, industrial, and societal sustainability. This includes research on lean manufacturing and design for sustainability; the enterprise-wide production of cellulose based ethanol from forest resources; optimization of ethanol based power systems; and alternative-energy technologies including hydrogen, wind, and micro- and macro-fuel cells. The initiative is highly interdisciplinary and involves researchers from engineering, the physical and life sciences, and business. Research is focused in five key areas. Advanced Power Systems: Critical technologies for clean, efficient, and sustainable power systems; and modeling of energy transport and conversion processes. Multi-scale Sensors and Systems: Research includes nanofabrication and characterization, microfabrication processes, and bio-nanotechnology.

Show More Music as a creative art form in the 21st century can combine both tradition and innovation, bringing together instruments (some new, some with centuries of history) and the latest in high technology. As a composer today all of these resources are available to you, and our research degrees in composition aim to foster your skills as you navigate this exciting new world. On this programme you can create works which use electroacoustics and computer technology, traditional (and not so traditional) instrumental and vocal composition, or which combine these aspects. Works for interactive systems, multimedia, and sound installations are also welcome, and you are encouraged to find your own individual path. PhD – this substantial portfolio (approximately 90 minutes in duration) should display a suitable range of genres and resources to be agreed by the supervisor, which is not derivative, and which satisfies the examiners that it contains original work which is worthy of performance at a professional level and also worthy of publication. You can study for a PhD on campus or by Distance Learning.
