Online Education Secondary Teaching Mathematics Degree :: Accredited Universities

This degree provides students with knowledge and skills in a range of disciplines drawn from mathematics and education that will enable graduates to apply for registration as a teacher of mathematics and other second teaching areas. Students can select a second teaching area from a range of specialist electives to suit their interests.

The education studies component is practice focused with students undertaking professional experience in schools and other learning sites. External students can normally complete their professional experience in their home towns.

The online Master of Arts degree in Education (MAED) is designed for educators who are interested in enhancing their professional practice through online study of advanced professional knowledge related to teaching, learning, and leadership in P-12 schools and postsecondary contexts (e.g. community colleges, universities, community centers, and the workplace). Through elective sequences of learning opportunities, the student may develop one or two concentrations that focus on selected areas such as special education, technology and learning, P-12 school and postsecondary leadership, literacy education, sport leadership and coaching, and science and mathematics education. The online MA program in Education is available only online and only under Plan B (without thesis). The online format provides optimum flexibility for students who wish to engage in inquiry and learning that will contribute to exemplary educational practice.

Applicants must possess a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average.

All international applicants and applicants whose first language is not English must be able to be proficient in English as a condition for regular admission to MSU. Such applicants will be required to demonstrate their proficiency by meeting certain minimum standards on any one of the following tests:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A total score of 550 with no subscores below 52 (paper version), or 80 with no subscore below 19 (22 for writing section) (Internet-based version) is required. The official report must be received by the Office of Admissions directly from Educational Testing Service.

Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) (Testing and Certification Division, The English Language Institute, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109 USA). An average score of 83 or higher with no subscores below 80 is required for the main test parts. A MELAB speaking score of at least 3 is also required. The official report must be received by the Office of Admissions directly from the University of Michigan English Language Institute.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A score of at least 6.5 is required. The official report must be received by the Office of Admissions directly from IELTS.

Michigan State University English Language Test (English Language Center [ELC], Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, 48824-1035, USA). An average score of 80 to 85 with no subscores below 80, or a minimum average score of 85 with no subscore below 78 is required.

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A). Minimum overall score of 53; no subscore below 51 for reading, listening, and speaking; no writing subscore below 59.

You will complete two coursework units, including a compulsory core research methods unit, and a thesis of up to 20-25,000 words. We provide a wide range of specialisations to suit your career aspirations.

Four years of full-time equivalent University study at Monash University or any other recognised tertiary institution in education or a relevant field (either through a double degree or undergraduate degree plus Graduate Diploma or an honours year) with an upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above). Where the prior study does not include an honours year it should include a research component equivalent to that of an honours year, or qualifications or experience that GRC considers to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above.

CSU’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics) – industry entry provides industry-skilled and qualified people access to pre-service teacher education enabling them to complete a qualification in secondary mathematics teaching via the industry entry pathway.

CSU’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics) – industry entry builds on knowledge and skills that students have previously acquired in their discipline area of mathematics. The course encourages students to develop discipline knowledge further and apply this knowledge to the context of secondary teaching.

Students will develop an understanding of educational and curriculum issues in the area of mathematics and learn to effectively plan and implement for the teaching / learning process. Students will develop and employ effective behaviour management strategies allowing them to communicate and interact professionally with students, staff members, and the communities served by their school.

Graduates of this course are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to teach Year 7 to Year 12 mathematics. They are able to use and develop professional knowledge and values, monitor and assess student progress and learning activities, and utilise appropriate teaching / learning technologies pertinent to their field.

Two years or more of a degree in econometrics / economics / actuarial study where maths and applied maths are part of the program (including one Level 1 / first year and one Level 2 / second year (or above) maths subjects of which only one subject can be a unit of statistics

A minimum of two years university study towards a degree including a sequence of at least two maths subjects (including one Level 1 / first year and one Level 2 / second year (or above) maths subjects of which only one subject can be a unit of statistics) with at least three years recent training and work related to an applied maths background.

The Master of Arts in Mathematics Education program at Aurora University Online is designed to equip secondary math teachers with the mathematics content and pedagogy needed to excite and instill a passion for math in the next generation of learners. Secondary teachers who seek to increase their knowledge of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) content will be introduced to The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics and the practices associated with them. Throughout the program, students will focus on deepening understanding of mathematical concepts and their usage throughout the K-12 spectrum. The content courses increase participants’ self-efficacy with higher level mathematics, while seamlessly integrating teaching methods and content.
