The MBA Strategic Management and Leadership aims to develop individuals to lead and manage successfully and ethically at a strategic level across a range of organisations, and to formulate, implement and critically evaluate decisions. It will enable managers to develop leadership and analytical skills to support and influence strategic, tactical and operational aspects of a business, and enable practitioners to understand how the various management functions in a business integrate.

Our MBA is designed for practising managers who want to gain a generalist perspective on management. It has been developed for those wanting to develop their entrepreneurial and consultancy skills to progress in an established company or to set up an independent venture. It is an MBA for those who are serious about practice. We do not ask you to complete a dissertation instead we have a project module worth one third of the course's credits which enhances your entrepreneurship skills or your ability to act as a consultant to your own or another organisation.

Applicants should possess the EdExcel BTEC Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership or, exceptionally demonstrate knowledge and understanding to an equivalent level via other means.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be expected to have two or more years of relevant business experience, which will include some management responsibility.

Holders of other graduate-level Level 7 professional qualifications may be considered at the discretion of the Programme Leader, so long as they can demonstrate appropriate equivalence of learning.

Applicants who do not possess either an honours degree or professional qualifications may also considered, again at the discretion of the Programme Leader and so long as they can demonstrate equivalent levels of learning; normally there will be an additional expectation that they can supply a GMAT score of at least 550 points.

If you do not hold an honours degree you will be required to demonstrate significantly successful managerial experience* and may be required to complete a GMAT test**. Where English is a second language you may be required to demonstrate a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL score of 575.

*Managerial experience means managerial responsibility for people and/or functions and/or technical expertise.

**The GMAT test measures a candidate’s academic potential for advanced management studies and is the standard and uniform predictor of graduate-level performance we use for candidates applying from all over the world from a wide range of undergraduate colleges and universities. We may require you to take this test.

In addition to having worked within a full-time managerial or professional role for 2 or more years, ideal candidates for the programme should:

You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all four components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening & writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).

The MSc in Strategic Accounting is a 1 year top up course for individuals who have completed all their CIMA examinations.

This course focuses strongly on the strategic aspects of the tourism and hospitality industry,and examines current emerging issues that students will face in the work environment.

By choosing this course students will get the opportunity to study the impact of the wider environment on the sector, how to set a strategy for a hospitality or tourism-based business and how to strategically market an organisation, sector or even a country. The MSc is designed for AIA, ACCA CIMA, ACA or CPA Australia graduates and aims to provide a means by which the continuing professional and personal needs of accounting practitioners may be met. Specifically, it aims to extend and enhance the understanding and competence gained via professional qualification and to enhance the ability of students to think strategically about management and organisational change. This top up course may be taken by part-time study (day or evening) in Northampton or by distance learning worldwide. Distance learning students are supported by online learning materials.

The programme is designed to broaden your specialist knowledge gained at the professional level. In particular the module on 'Managing Strategic Change' takes an in depth look at both leading edge strategic issues and change processes. The module covers the business tools, techniques and concepts used in scanning the business environment for potential changes, analysing the potential implications of differing scenarios, strategies and processes before developing responses to potential changes. 'Research Methods' covers the introduction to research, types of research methodology, formulating and planning a research project, data collection and analysis and presentation of research findings.
