Show More This course builds on the Diploma of Children's Services qualification and aims to provide students with knowledge and skills for reflective professional practice and organisational leadership. Students are prepared for current, new and changing professional roles and extend leadership skills, knowledge and expertise. They build a capacity to make informed choices about early childhood theory, curriculum, pedagogy, policy and practice; to articulate, incorporate and advocate for equity values and social justice principles in professional practice; and to identify ways that gender, culture, ability and context impact on children's services practice with children, families and community. Students are normally already working in children's services. Typically, students study this course on an external part-time, rather than a full-time basis because of their employment commitments. This course shares a suite of units with the Bachelor of Teaching and Learning and all units are offered in both internal and external mode. Some units are available in Summer Semester. This flexibility may assist students to plan a schedule of study which suits their individual needs, and essentially provides a fast track route to completion even with a part-time load. Course work and assignments are generally linked to students' professional practice in their workplaces. This course caters for students based around the country and overseas. It requires a high level of on-line work especially for external students. Employment opportunities exist for graduates in managerial and leadership roles within a children's services area. Graduates are not eligible for teacher registration in the Northern Territory. Graduates may however seek admission into the Bachelor of Early Childhood Learning which is a recognised teaching qualification in the Northern Territory. Entry RequirementsCompletion of a Diploma of Children's Services, Diploma of Out of School Hours Care or equivalent. All applicants must have a minimum of one year's experience in managing or coordinating a children's service or two years experience in planning and implementing programs for children after completion of the relevant qualification.
