The Nursing Education specialization of our Master of Science in Nursing prepares nurses for various roles in nurse education—in both clinical and academic settings. Graduates of this program may teach in nursing schools or teaching hospitals, providing patient and staff education. The Nursing Education specialization is designed to provide courses that will equip students with a comprehensive education grounded in nursing theory and research, a practical knowledge of legal and ethical issues in healthcare, and specialized skills in areas such as teaching strategies and curriculum development. The Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nursing Education program is intended for registered nurses who have already completed their bachelor’s degree in nursing. Registered nurses who do not yet have a bachelor's degree in nursing but would like to pursue a MSN degree may do so through our RN to MSN Bridge program. Open to registered nurses who already possess an associates degree in nursing, this program allows RNs to graduate directly with their MSN degree without being required to complete a separate bachelor's degree program. MSN students specializing in Nursing Education will gain the skills necessary to transform their nursing experience into teaching expertise. Students acquire the tools to develop and manage classes through courses including Issues in Nursing Education; Teaching Strategies in Nursing Education; and Curriculum Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In addition to coursework, students will have the opportunity to attain classroom and clinical experience during the Nursing Education Practicum course. Entry RequirementsApplication A completed application. Resume A resume or curriculum vitae. Statement of Goals A statement of your goals reflecting the academic, professional, and personal goals you would like to achieve through your work with Aspen University. Your goals statement will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee as part of the application process. The statement of goals should be between 300 - 500 words. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree Transcripts Evidence of a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from a school accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the National League for Nursing, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.Official transcripts of all previous baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate study must be sent directly to Aspen University by the granting institution(s). Registered Nurse Licensure Current licensure as a registered nurse in the United States or Canada Nursing Experience A minimum of one year of nursing experience completed within the past five years (Students for whom an exception is made will be advised to take core courses the first year of study while working to meet the experience requirement). Military Documentation (Optional) A Military ID or DD214 for those who qualify for the military discount program. Transfer Credit Evaluation (Optional) Students who have earned college credit may submit a transfer credit evaluation report with corresponding course descriptions, and official transcripts from accredited institutions in order to determine which credits may be applied toward the requirements of a program at Aspen University.
