The MSN Nurse Educator program is designed to prepare well-qualified nurses to become well-prepared nursing educators in order to pursue careers in patient education, staff development, and pre-licensure nursing education programs in community colleges, and other educational settings. Like nursing, nursing education is also an art and a science. The course sequence is designed to transform well-qualified baccalaureate nurses into well-prepared nurse educators. Program content is centered around the teaching-learning process and focuses on the theoretical foundations of nursing education, curriculum development, instructional design and strategies, and assessment and evaluation in a variety of settings. Concurrently, forces that impact nursing education are explored.

Entry Requirements

Applicants possess a BSN degree from a nationally accredited program with an upper division grade point average of 3.0 or higher, have competitive scores on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), and an unencumbered State of Florida RN License.

Through the program, students are equipped with the critical thinking skills and knowledge needed to promote the profession of nursing through teaching, clinical practice, program development and implementation, and scholarship.

Prior to enrollment in Liberty University's M.S.N. Online program, potential students are encouraged to research their respective State Boards of Nursing for information about clinical nurse specialist practice and certification relevant to the nurse practice act and requirements for certification. Prospective students should also contact their state’s Department of Education to verify access to practicum sites while enrolled in an out-of-state online program. In addition to meeting basic requirements for admission to the Graduate School, applicants for graduate study in nursing must have:

- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program with an upper division major in nursing with a “B” average (3.0 or higher on a 4.0 point grading system).

- Current licensure as an RN or eligibility for licensure.

- Professional nursing liability insurance.

- Completed approved statistical methods course with a grade of ‘C’ or higher within the past 5 years.

The Nurse Educator major is targeted for baccalaureate graduates with clinical nursing experience who want to become nursing faculty or staff educators. Graduates are envisioned as teachers of undergraduate nursing students in the classroom and clinical setting.
