Specialisations are available in Information and Library Management, Librarianship and Records and Archive Management. Why study this course? The changing nature of society has brought a growing demand for knowledge and information at work, in education and in leisure. Librarians, archivists, knowledge managers and many other information professionals are meeting that demand by providing effective access to information resources and services. CSU’s Bachelor of Information Studies reflects the critical importance of information and knowledge management across a wide range of fields and institutions. The course provides students with an in-depth understanding of the creation, evaluation, collection, organisation, utilisation and dissemination of information in the contemporary. CSU’s School of Information Studies (SIS) is one of the world’s largest providers of education for the information industries internationally and has been educating and researching in the Information and Library Studies field for nearly 40 years. Today well over half of Australia's information and library studies students are enrolled at CSU. This experience means we understand our students and our professions, and design and deliver distance education courses that respond to students’ needs. Students are able to choose subjects from a wide range of specialisations. The School of Information Studies (SIS) is one of the largest providers of education for the information industries internationally and been educating and researching in the Information and Library Studies field for nearly 40 years. The career opportunities for our graduates are broad and include employment in public and academic libraries; research, government and corporate information centres; and the cultural heritage sector. Entry RequirementsThe minimum entry requirement is an undergraduate degree or equivalent in any discipline. Applicants should also have a basic knowledge and understanding of using personal computers and the internet. Successful applicants must have substantial access to the internet and a computer during the period they are enrolled in the course in order to complete course requirements. Master of Information Studies applicants who have a professionally recognised Graduate Diploma in the field of library science or information management may be eligible for a maximum credit of 64 points. Show More CSU's Bachelor of Information Studies (Honours) is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop expertise in research methods and data analysis, study in depth a topic in the field of information studies which is of particular interest to them, and complete a dissertation in their field of interest. About the course The course prepares graduates for entry to higher degree research courses and provides them with the necessary research skills, knowledge and attitudes to achieve this goal. Students will develop an advanced level of knowledge in their chosen area of specialisation and further develop their verbal and written skills for advancement to higher level studies and research. While the course has a distinct structure, it also has the flexibility to meet the differing needs of students wishing to specialise in different areas. Students may commence studies at the beginning of the academic year or in mid-year subject to places being available.
