The medical radiation sciences program comprises an applied science award in diagnostic radiography at bachelor's level, specialist postgraduate courses at master's, diploma and certificate levels, and graduate entry master's degrees in diagnostic radiography and molecular imaging.

Our specialist courses in medical radiation sciences aim to advance the skills and expertise of professionals in their area of specialisation, and to broaden their exposure to the wider field of health sciences.

Graduate entry courses lead to eligibility to practice as diagnostic radiographers and molecular imaging technicians, and include extensive clinical fieldwork placements within the public and private sectors.

Entry Requirements

Admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate of Health Science (Medical Radiation Sciences), the Graduate Diploma of Health Science (Medical Radiation Sciences) and the Master of Health Science (Medical Radiation Sciences) requires:

In order to qualify for admission, applicants must have one of the following:
* A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
* The Graduate Certificate of Health Science (Medical
Radiation Sciences) from the University of Sydney, or
equivalent qualification from another University
* Other evidence of general and professional qualifications
and/or experience, to satisfy the Faculty that the
applicant possesses the educational capacity to pursue
graduate studies, and satisfy such additional
requirements for admission to the program, if any, as may
be prescribed by the Faculty.

Students who entered the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Health Science (Medical Radiation Sciences) with an undergraduate diploma or less will be required to achieve at least a credit average to be able to articulate to the Master of Health Science (Medical Radiation Sciences). Acceptance into the MRS graduate program and articulation from any level of the program to any higher level is at the discretion of the academic advisor and program coordinator.

Entry Requirements

To be considered, graduates must be from an approved secondary school or have obtained a General Education Development high school equivalency diploma issued by the Pennsylvania (or associated state) Department of Education. Home-schooled applicants must be a graduate of a Department of Education-approved home-school association program.

Medical imaging science students are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 QPA and earn grades of "C" or higher in all required science and clinical courses.

Admission to a clinical program in radiologic technology or sonography is at the discretion of the clinical sites' admissions committees and is competitive. Admission to the medical imaging sciences program at Clarion University does not guarantee admission to a clinical program in radiologic technology or ultrasound (sonography).

If you're a suitably qualified graduate, this intensive, off-campus, practised-based course will give you the skills you need for accelerated entry into the medical radiations professions.

It's the only distance-learning course of its type in Australia and includes up to 62 weeks of clinical placements - more than any other similar Australian degree.

The two-year, full-time course normally allows you to specialise in the radiation therapy or medical ultrasound streams, but, unfortunately, we can't offer the ultrasound option in 2014 because of a lack of placement opportunities.

If you're already working in this area, our Master of Medical Ultrasound will give you research and advanced practice skills.

The radiation therapy stream, available in 2014, includes clinical placements in Victoria, along with Interstate placements agreements that are well established in Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.

Clinical placements numbers vary from year to year and availability can be determined on application. Applicants could be qualified and nationally registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practise in those states by 2016.

This fast tracking to a specialist career is possible because you study three semesters, including a summer semester, each year.

Work integrated learning is supported by underpinning academic knowledge and clinical competency is monitored and assessed through the University.

The course is fully supported by our extensive online resources and teaching staff. It's provided through our research-focused Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, giving you exposure to the most up-to-date practices and knowledge.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will:

Have obtained at least a credit average in a demonstrated course sequence in either science or health sciences;

Have successfully passed University level human anatomy and physiology, or an equivalent bridging course; and

Have passed either year 12 physics at a satisfactory level or successfully passed University level physics, or equivalent bridging course;

Applicants holding degrees/qualifications in other health related disciplines will be assessed on a case by case basis by the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences.

Suitably qualified internationals students wishing to undertake the Master of Medical Radiations in their country of residence must satisfy the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences in respect to the appropriateness of their clinical supervision.
