Application

A completed application.

Statement of Goals

A statement of your goals reflecting the academic, professional, and personal goals you would like to achieve through your work with Aspen University. Your goals statement will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee as part of the application process. The statement of goals should be between 300 - 500 words.

High School Transcripts

An official high school transcript or its equivalent. Waived if student has completed at least 15 credits of college level course work.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts for all previous college credit earned.

Portfolio

All applicants must submit a minimum of 8 artwork samples. All images must be an acceptable file size for reviewing (images up to 5 MB each, video up to 60 MB each and PDFs up to 10 MB each). Applicants are encouraged to submit the maximum of 10 images. Traditional artwork can be photographed or scanned and a digital version submitted in order to be considered for admission. Portfolios should contain work that is concise, relevant, and above all complete. Select work that is consistent with the program for which you are applying.

Military Documentation (Optional)

A Military ID or DD214 for those who qualify for the military discount program.

Transfer Credit Evaluation (Optional)

Students who have earned college credit may submit a transfer credit evaluation report with corresponding course descriptions, and official transcripts from accredited institutions in order to determine which credits may be applied toward the requirements of a program at Aspen University.

Minimum GPA Requirement

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required for all previous high school or college credit.

Conditional Acceptance

Students will be Conditionally Accepted pending successful completion of CMP160 - English Composition I. Upon successful completion of CMP160 - English Composition I students will be fully Accepted. This requirement is waived for students awarded Transfer Credit for CMP160 - English Composition I.

CSU's Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) offers students a pathway to Visual Arts practice, in collaboration with TAFE. As future artists, designers, educators or arts managers, students can chose from a wide range of studio options including traditional fine art media such as painting and drawing through to multimedia, design and photography.

The Bachelor of Arts (Fine­­­ Arts) at CSU includes an articulation arrangement with TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, Wagga Wagga. Students wishing to undertake this pathway need to complete at least a Diploma in Visual Arts at TAFE before entering the program with CSU. Students who have previously completed the Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Fine Art also qualify to apply to the Fine Art program with CSU.

As part of the course, students will study drawing, painting and printmaking. They will have the opportunity to study subjects from illustration, photography, graphic design, or design subjects for theatre and television. To relate their studio work to the wider world of visual arts practice, students will also study art history and visual culture subjects.

Whichever pathway you choose, Fine Art is about making artworks to communicate ideas, lived experiences, thoughts or feelings and to understand your relationship as an artist to the wider field of contemporary arts practice in Australia and internationally.

The Master of Fine Art is a research degree. Candidates develop a studio research proposal that results in a body of creative or visual works with accompanying written and visual documentation. The documentation is a commentary that outlines the development of the project and its conclusion, and provides a critical context within which the work may be viewed and assessed.

The visual works are new works that demonstrate a conclusion to the research at the master's level. Works completed for other purposes, or before the candidacy, are not permitted for inclusion in the exhibition. Unless site-specific, the faculty requires master's examination exhibitions to be conducted on-campus.

In special circumstances, the faculty may admit an applicant who does not meet these academic criteria. In such cases, the faculty will consider your qualifications, publications (including exhibitions) and experience in the proposed field of study. Such applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

All applications must be accompanied by 10 - 15 images of recent original work, clearly numbered with a corresponding list of details attached and a research proposal of 200-300 words.

This dynamic course emphasizes research through creative practice. Principal research areas include painting, drawing, print-media, installation, sculpture, digital imaging, photomedia and visual arts. The program requires students to develop a research project that results in a new body of creative or visual work with accompanying written and visual documentation. The documentation is a commentary that outlines the development of the project and its conclusion, and provides a critical context within which the work may be viewed and assessed. The written commentary will be between 10,000 and 20,000 words, with a photographic record of the visual or creative work being bound into the document. Written work is not examined separately but considered together with an exhibition of new visual works, which demonstrate a conclusion to the research proposal at the master's level. Students must also complete a sequence of two coursework units which will guide them through the documentary dimensions of their project.
