At Murdoch University, to graduate as a Secondary teacher you’ll need to choose a combined degree with the Bachelor of Education and either the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor Science. The Bachelor of Education prepares you as a teacher, your major in the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science prepares you for your teaching area(s). A combined degree takes 5 years full‐time study and will see you graduate with two degrees setting you up for a career in teaching and the opportunity to pursue your non‐teaching major in the professional direction. Students can select a second teaching area from a range of specialist electives to suit their interests. The education studies component is practice focused with students undertaking professional experience in schools and other learning sites generally from the third year of their course. Students are also encouraged to undertake field/professional experience in remote schools. External students can normally complete their professional experience in their home towns. Indigenous perspectives are a particular focus, and students can undertake studies in Indigenous languages and literacy as well as examining specific strategies for enhancing educational outcomes for Indigenous learners.

All international applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisional admission, which requires completion of specified remedial English courses ESL 114G (American Oral English for Academic Purposes) and/or ESL 116G (ESL/Composition for Academic Disciplines) and attainment of a grade of B or higher.
