Applicants who are admitted into any master's degree program have met the following admission requirements:

International Applicants

International applicants who are admitted into any graduate degree program have met the following admission requirements:

1. Completion of post-secondary education (bachelors degree); translated and evaluated to U.S. equivalency by an approved credential evaluator with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

- 3-year undergraduate degrees earned outside the U.S. are accepted if an approved credential evaluator declares the degree equivalent to an earned U.S. bachelors degree.

2. English Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate sufficient English language skills for admission into a JIU degree program by meeting one or more of the following criteria:

- Test of English as a Foreign Language (link is external) (TOEFL®): Evidence of having scored at least 61 on the Internet-based Test (iBT™), 173 on the Computer-based Test (CBT), or 500 on the Paper-based Test (PBT). Results must be sent directly from the testing service by selecting JIU as the recipient along with entering our Designation Code (DI) of 7463, OR

- International English Language Testing System (link is external) (IELTS): Reading and writing band scores must be 5.5 or higher with no band less than 5.0. Results must be sent to JIU directly from the testing service, OR

- Earned U.S. Bachelors degree from a college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

For admission to the Graduate School, an applicant must hold either (1) a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or (2) a tertiary (postsecondary) degree that is deemed comparable to a four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution. This degree must be from an officially recognized degree-granting institution in the country in which it operates.

International applicants

All international applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisional admission, which requires completion of specified remedial English courses ESL 114G (American Oral English for Academic Purposes) and/or ESL 116G (ESL/Composition for Academic Disciplines) and attainment of a grade of B or higher. The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS is 6.5. Graduate programs may have more stringent requirements.

The Master of Science in Applied Science and Technology (MSAST) degree is an online program designed to meet the advanced, multi-disciplinary educational requirements of students interested in obtaining leadership positions in a variety of technical professions. The program focuses on developing the research analysis and critical evaluation skills necessary to support decision-making and problem-solving required to lead today's technical enterprises.

The core curriculum provides advanced learning in the modern tools of business management, leadership, applied science and technology. Students select from one of four areas of study: Clinical Trials Management, Information Technology, Nuclear Energy Technology Management and Technical Studies.

- All applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 2.75 is recommended

- Applicants to degree programs must provide a current resume with their completed application.
