Entry Requirements

Applicants to the MSc must have a minimum of:

A second class undergraduate honours degree in a relevant discipline, or

A second class undergraduate honours degree in an unrelated discipline and significant relevant work experience within the built environment, or

A recognised appropriate professional qualification such as RICS or CIOB

Applicants to the LLM must have a minimum of:

A second class undergraduate honours qualifying law degree, or

A recognised appropriate professional legal qualification

Developed to meet the demands of the modern construction industry, this course incorporates current construction techniques and explores the latest regulatory and commercial issues. You'll build on your existing qualifications or experience in this area to develop a good knowledge of architectural technology, building performance and the laws that govern the industry. The course offers a well balanced blend of theory and practice which prepares you for the workplace. So you'll gain a broad understanding of the construction industry but also learn how to apply this to create design solutions.

The course is built around the knowledge and current applied research of three of the University's key research units; the Building Performance Centre, Scottish Energy Centre and the Centre for Timber Engineering. You'll study taught modules which provide you with the knowledge and experience required to complete a major design project and continue on to a successful career in construction.

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists confirms that this is an approved Masters programme and graduates who gain this award meet the Institute’s requirements for Associate membership for progression to Chartered Membership.

As well as the knowledge base that the course provides you with, you will also gain transferable skills in research, communication, organisation, problem solving and presentation.

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) program focuses on the theories, practices, competencies, tools, and technologies associated with electrical engineering. You’ll get both online-classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience to help prepare you to excel as an electrical engineer. Courses include foundations in math, computer science, and physical sciences and cover a broad range of topics, such as:

- Basic elements in analog circuit design

- Fundamentals of circuit analysis—Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s law, superposition, etc.

- International System of Units

- Digital and logic circuit analysis and design in 6 main parts

- Energy conversion and transport

- Electromagnetic field theory

- Passive microwave circuit analysis and design

- Transmitting and receiving information without wires

- Radar and RF signal propagation, transmission, and reception

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 4% job growth by 2022 for electrical and electronics engineers due to the engineer’s versatility in developing and applying emerging technologies. Because this program fills a market-driven educational need, earning your BSEE could give you a step up in starting a career in industries ranging from aerospace, telecommunications, and defense to automotive, medical, construction, chemical, and more.

Note: The technology fee for the engineering courses (ENGR and ELEN prefixes) in this program is $100. Some of the engineering courses will require you to purchase course materials to confirm and apply the concepts. The total cost for these course materials is approximately $12,000, and is not covered by the undergraduate book grant.

The initial ENGR and ELEN courses will begin to be open for registration in July 2014 for sessions starting in September. The remaining ENGR and ELEN courses will be phased in at regular intervals. Students are strongly encouraged to take COMM200 as their Humanities GEN ED and ECON101 as their Social Science GEN ED options.

Welcome to the home of the Geomatics program at North Carolina A&T State University. Our program is housed in the School of Technology under the Department of Built Environment and is the only four year program in Geomatics in the state of North Carolina.

So what is Geomatics? It is a broad term that covers about any area of study and professional practice that uses measurements to determine locations on the earth's surface. For a comprehensive overview of the area of Geomatics (aka Surveying) check out the Be a Surveyor website. You will be able to study and work in the areas of photogrammetry, traditional boundary surveying, construction, hydrography, geodesy, geographic information systems (GIS), forensic surveying, manufacturing, and about any other area that uses measurements.

The program in Geomatics is the only four-year program in the state of North Carolina that prepares students for professional licensure. The program is unique in design, allowing an easy transition for students coming from community college survey and civil technology programs, traditional campus students, as well as providing an opportunity for distance learning through upper-level on-line classes.

The curriculum has an emphasis in the areas of math, science, technology, and geospatial analysis. Courses included are Land Surveying, Boundary and Survey Law, Photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Route Surveying, Automation, Geodetic Science, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Adjustment Computations. Geomatics has applications in all disciplines that depend on spatial data, including, surveying, civil engineering, mapping sciences, geographic information systems (GIS), geodesy, photogrammetry, and remote sensing. It is an integrated approach to the measurement, analysis, management, storage and display of descriptive, geographically-referenced earth-base data. This data comes from many sources including earth orbiting satellites, air and sea-borne sensors, and ground-based instruments.
