Online Biotechnology Degree :: Accredited Universities

The Leicester MBA (Biotechnology) is a flexible, executive-focused MBA tailored to the needs of biotechnology professionals, jointly managed by our School of Management and our School of Biological Sciences.

This course has been developed in association with HollandBio, the Dutch biotech industry organisation which connects, supports and represents biotech companies and organisations in the Netherlands.

Entry Requirements

At least three years’ relevant work experience in a supervisory, managerial or professional role(s)

A good UK honours degree or its equivalent or an acceptable professional qualification.

Alternatively, you can apply if you have taken the University of Leicester’s Professional Diploma in Management (or its predecessor, the Diploma in Management).

All teaching is in English, including the workshops. If your first language is not English you must satisfy the University of Leicester's English language requirements.

The Johns Hopkins MS in Biotechnology offers a comprehensive exploration of basic science, applied science, and lab science, with an industry focus. The program gives you a solid grounding in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, and proteomics.

This 10-course degree program is thesis-optional, part-time, and can be completed fully online. Our curriculum will prepare you to engage in research, lead lab teams, make development and planning decisions, create and apply research modalities to large projects, and take the reins of management and marketing decisions.

Many students like the flexibility of the general degree; it allows them to tailor the coursework to meet their individual career goals. The program also offers five different concentrations: biodefense, bioinformatics, biotechnology enterprise, regulatory affairs, or drug discovery.

Onsite courses are taught during evenings or weekends at either the university’s Homewood Campus in Baltimore, MD or the Montgomery County Campus in Rockville, MD. Courses are also offered in our state-of-the-art lab.

- Two semesters of biology

The Johns Hopkins Master of Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship program is intended for biotechnology professionals who want a career beyond the laboratory within an existing biotechnology organization or for those who dream of starting a new biotechnology enterprise. The curriculum will provide you with the interdisciplinary foundation to address the enterprise and regulatory challenges organizations face in the biotechnology industry.

You’ll complete 10 graduate courses, including a final practicum course to gain real-world experience. You may choose three electives across a broad range of science, enterprise and regulatory courses. You can also complete a concentration in legal/regulatory affairs.

As a graduate, you’ll have the expertise to:

- Formulate strategies that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the biotechnology industry in the areas of science, regulation and enterprise.

- Develop and carry out appropriate leadership strategies to achieve company goals and objectives.

- Create financial and funding strategies for success under
various economic situations.

- Demonstrate principles of human interrelationships to research, design and development activities, with emphasis upon principles of communication.

- Navigate the various steps in the development of a biotechnology derived product: from its inception as intellectual property, to scale-up, to the final product.

- Create marketing strategies that achieve organizational goals and objectives.

- Formulate product launch strategies in the US and internationally that reflect changes in the regulation of the product approval and marketing process.

- Solve organizational problems arising from a legal and technology framework.

- Identify, evaluate and assess risks and payoffs in monetary and non-monetary terms.

tudents must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited US college or university. A bachelor’s degree in the life sciences is recommended. Applicants should have at least one course in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Applicants with a strong background will be considered, but may be required to take a prerequisite course, Foundations in Bioscience. Programs require a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Meeting the minimum GPA requirement does not guarantee admission.

This new area of specialization in the College of Technology focuses on creating leaders in biotechnology innovation and regulatory science, especially relating to pharmaceuticals. The curricula also addresses topics of innovation and integrates emerging technologies.

The program consists of 10 courses and a special project for a total of 33 credit hours. The array of courses will provide:

- an understanding of all aspects of quality

- an understanding of biotechnology innovation and regulatory science

- in-depth knowledge related to biotechnology and pharma
knowledge on how to lead and manage operations within the industry

Students must meet the following admission requirements for the master's degree focused on biotechnology innovation and regulatory science (BIRS):

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0/4.0

- Minimum TOEFL iBT score of 77 if student is not from an English Speaking Country. (For African applicants, English-speaking countries include Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria.)

The modern pharmaceutical industry encompasses the development of ‘biologics’ (for example antibodies or protein hormones), as much as it does traditional small-molecule drug discovery.

You will study the design and potential uses of different families of proteins and will examine the experiences of successful entrepreneurs in the field who have been involved in the commercialization of bio pharmaceuticals.

Your research project will focus on the early phases of an industrial biologic design programme.

Entry Requirements

A UK 2:1 degree, or its international equivalent in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, medicine, molecular biology, pharmacology or related sciences. Other scientific backgrounds are considered on a case-by-case basis.
