Show More Enterprise architecture (EA) is the process of translating business vision and strategy into effective enterprise change by creating, communicating, and improving the key requirements, principles, and models that describe the enterprise’s future state and enable its evolution and transformation. This transformation process entails the analysis and design of an enterprise in its current and future states from a strategic, organizational, and technological perspective. The goals of EA are to improve the organizational efficiency, effectiveness, and agility by delivering business-aligned enterprise systems. At the core of modern-day enterprise architecture is finding better, more effective ways to analyze, design, and implement solutions that support the business capabilities of the organization. In addition, EA provides an analysis and planning discipline to help ensure that enterprise systems have the agility needed to align with and support changes in business strategy and underlying business capabilities. The EA process produces several things of value to the organization:
- a clear understanding of the strategic requirements of the enterprise EA is an important transformational resource for any organization, large or small, in providing the enterprise-wide view needed to effectively develop and utilize systems and technology for competitive advantage. Why Enterprise Architecture at Penn State? The successful EA professional requires a unique combination of skills and perspectives. These professionals need to integrate strategic, business, and technology planning methods with an ability to understand, analyze, justify, and communicate the solution of enterprise architecture problems. Penn State's online Master of Professional Studies in Enterprise Architecture (MPS in EA) program bridges many disciplines needed for success. The enterprise architecture degree is not focused solely on the technocentric side of enterprise architecture; it is an interdisciplinary degree that covers business and engineering, information sciences, and project/portfolio management, offering you a broader, more comprehensive perspective. Providing a focal point for research and education in this evolving discipline, Penn State's Center for Enterprise Architecture was launched in January 2011 and bolsters current College of Information Sciences and Technology degrees and supports the college's ongoing efforts to develop and deliver new curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to the master's degree program, World Campus offers a 9-credit graduate certificate in enterprise architecture, composed of courses from the master's core curriculum. If you choose to begin with the certificate program, the credits you earn may be applied to the master's degree in enterprise architecture. Along the way to earning a master’s degree in EA, you can further enhance your résumé by earning a certificate in project management. The 12-credit certificate uses problem-based learning to provide a strong foundation in project management theory and practice. The program is AACSB accredited, and Penn State is a Project Management Institute (PMI)® Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.), so your certificate will be a well-respected credential. To earn the Graduate Certificate in Project Management, you must apply for it separately. Who Should Apply? The MPS in EA program is multidisciplinary in nature, designed for working professionals with a variety of backgrounds, including information technology, business, engineering, and others (liberal arts, political science, and education). The courses are offered in a flexible, online delivery format to meet the needs of postgraduate students who are employed full-time, as well as the needs of the international student. If you want to enhance your professional competencies, advance your career, and position yourself to take on greater roles or change careers altogether, the MPS in EA is an excellent choice for you. Career Opportunities One of the many advantages of enterprise architecture is its application to a host of positions and opportunities. Although a relatively new career field in many organizations, EA is rapidly evolving, and many career paths are emerging. EA professionals are found in all types of organizations and industries today, including:

Show More The Master of Arts in Government gives students the tools to examine governmental and social institutions in our society, explore areas of reform, and most importantly, bring about change. The program combines the theory and practice of government, politics, and policy-making for those who hope to make a significant difference in Washington, D.C.–and beyond.
The Johns Hopkins MA in Government was designed for working adults with specialized skills in a particular field but who want a broader perspective of government to position them for leadership in politics and administration. In class, you’ll contribute to lively discussions, build analytical skills, and learn strategies for engaging in original research. While our courses are designed around the latest scholarly and scientific knowledge, their true focus is to provide you with the practical skills necessary for solving governmental, political, and policymaking problems of today. - Legal Studies focuses on the intersection of law and politics, as well as law enforcement issues. - Political Communication provides you with the opportunity to study with practitioners in the field: reporters, political operatives, journalists, and campaign and news and media professionals. - Security Studies covers the fundamentals of administering and preserving American security. But the MA in Government is more than just a dynamic program taught in the most politically connected city in the world. It’s an opportunity to study under internationally renowned faculty: Johns Hopkins professors, scholar-practitioners and experts at the highest levels of government and industry. Our permanent faculty members hold doctorates in political science, history, and international relations. For example, Michael O’Hanlon of the Brookings Institution, a leading expert on defense strategy and the use of force, teaches a course that assesses the prospects for American power projection. Dr. Michael Siegel, a Senior Training Specialist at the Federal Judicial Center, teaches a wildly popular course on developing negotiating skills. The program gives you the power and the permission to make a difference in policy and politics. Show More As the 21st century drives us forward, a push toward greater transparency and effective governance reflects upon the standing of distinguished policy makers and administrators in the legislative branches. The age of information and the innovative, open forums of communication – blogs, social media and the internet as a whole – demand a comprehensive understanding of the political forces in this arena. The bachelor's degree in government for state and local public policy envisions strong political leadership, which improves and makes a difference in the lives of people in their communities. The program, which serves as an alternative to a political science degree, explores the scope of governance and democracy through patterns of political behavior.
Government and Public Policy Curriculum At the heart of the traditional, evening or online BA in government is a classical liberal arts education that inspires critical reasoning, effective communication and a strong foundation in research and writing. The program offers an introduction into American politics and government. It provides a deep understanding of the constitutional foundations and the governing institutions in the federal government. With the classics as well as the more contemporary expressions of political thought, the core of the government degree surveys the development of the American Constitution from its colonial origins to the present day. In the broader framework of political philosophy, the program examines constitutional law and the impact Supreme Court decisions have had on society. Only minutes from the county, city and state headquarters, GCU's government program makes special reference to Arizona's political and socio-economic environments. It reflects on the development of the city government in the United States and the future of cities through the essential hands on skills of government affairs.
Public Policy in Focus Public administrators and legislators in the echelons of state and local government are responsible for creating policy and laws that profoundly impact society. A public policy education can extend beyond the public arena into non-profits, regulatory affairs in the private sector, and the broader corporate space that is heavily reliant on public policy and regulations. Research analysts in the political sphere also demand a strong understanding of public policy and the inner-workings of government and politics. For students who are interested in advancing their education beyond the bachelor's level GCU offers a Master of Public Administration degree. Entry RequirementsApplicants interested in earning their bachelor's degree online must meet the following requirement:
High School Transcripts - Applicants are required to submit official high school transcripts with a cumulative, unweighted grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or above.
Transferring from Another College, University or Program Applicants with 25 or more transferable credits from an accredited, GCU-approved college, university or program may be accepted to the university if they have an unweighted GPA of 2.25 or above. Second Bachelor's Degree Applicants who have already earned a bachelor's degree from GCU or another institution but are interested in pursuing a second bachelor's degree may be accepted to the university if they meet the minimum admission standard of an unweighted GPA of 2.0 or above. Other Fees |
