This Master of Advanced Study in American media and popular culture is an innovative graduate program in the study of film, television, computer games, the internet and screenwriting. The film and media industries are undergoing constant transformation as a result of industry reorganization, globalization, new technologies and increasingly sophisticated forms of artistic expression and storytelling. Our curriculum aims to put our students on the forward edge of that change. Entry Requirements● Applicants must submit a two-page personal statement that describes their past academic work, reasons for pursuing theMAS and the skills that prepare them for this degree. ● A three-page essay that assesses their knowledge of media theory and critical analysis skills. The subject of the essay will be included in the online Graduate Admissions Application. ● While letters of recommendation are optional, applicants may include two or three letters in their application. Recommenders should be former teachers or supervisors, addressing the applicant's academic performance, motivation and character. ● An interview via Skype will be conducted before final admission decisions are made.
International Applicants 1. One of the following results on a standardized English proficiency test: (a) 100 (iBT) or 600 (PBT) or higher on the TOEFL; (b) 7.0 or higher on the IELTS. The MTESOL program will also accept a 68 or higher on the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTEA). 2. A grade of "A" in all Advanced 2 classes in the ASU American English and Culture Program (AECP) . 3. One of the following from a regionally accredited college/university in the US: (a) a bachelor's degree or higher; (b) at least 90 semester hours of undergraduate coursework with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale; (c) at least 12 semester hours of graduate coursework with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. A minimum score of 55 on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) is also required for teaching assistants.
