Accounting Information Systems is a major combining advanced coursework in accounting with computer information systems and basic programming. It is a five-year program that meets the requirements for students planning to take the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam. In most states, preparation for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination requires an additional 25 semester hours beyond the 125 semester hours required for the Baccalaureate accounting degree. The Accounting Information Systems major will prepare you for the CPA exam and to work in organizations which increasingly rely on technology for accounting activities. Students majoring in Accounting Information Systems at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will also be prepared for positions that require interpreting converging information in conjunction with the strategic goals of an organization. This interaction allows the graduate to take a leadership role in creating and implementing a technology plan for the organization.
