MSc Applied Professional Studies (Adult Care and Protection) is one of in our suite of MSc Applied Professional Studies programmes. This range of innovative, inter-professional programmes that are dedicated to developing and integrating contemporary practice, helping practitioners to engage creatively with the concerns of their profession in a research-informed way.

The named award MSc Applied Professional Studies (Adult Care and Protection) aims to develop advanced levels of professional practice in work with vulnerable adults. It will enable students to conceptualise and apply a range of theoretical and practice frameworks for assessment and intervention with vulnerable adults, enhance inter-professional and multi–sector working practices to promote collaborative practice and integrated approaches within and across a range of professions and disciplines.

Entry Requirements

For general admission to the programme you should normally have obtained an honours degree or other qualification recognised by us as equivalent. In addition to meeting the required entrance qualification criteria, your admission to the programme is subject to you providing evidence that you have a minimum period of two years experience working in an appropriate practice setting. Depending on the pathway chosen there can be further specific entry requirements to meet.

The named award MSc Applied Professional Studies (Child Care and Protection) aims to support students to develop advanced levels of practice, a critical understanding of the area of child care and protection, the application of a range of techniques and practices to make informed decisions in relation to complex issues and to become more critical, analytical and articulate in relation to policy, research and practice issues.

Students can choose to leave with a PGCertificate in Child Care & Protection, or a PGDiploma or a Master of Science degree in Applied Professional Studies (Child Care and Protection).

This course has been designed for professionals across a wide range of professions and occupations predominantly in the public, voluntary and third sectors. The programme has been developed in partnership with stakeholders in the Health and Social Care sectors and has a specific focus in the leadership, management and quality assurance and improvement of health and wellbeing services.

The programme has flexible entry and exit points allowing candidate to enter at a level appropriate to candidate's level of education and experience. Candidates are encouraged to seek credit for prior formal learning and for experience. The programme has 3 levels which are matched to the Scottish Credit and Qualifications framework level 7, 8 and 9.

Aims of the Programme

Entry Requirements

Participants usually have a professional qualification or experience of working in a profession for a number of years.

The qualification level depends on the level the participant wishes to gain entry:

3 Highers or equivalent (eg access to HE) allows entry to SCQF Level 7 (certificate level),

for entry to Level 8 (diploma level), candidate need the equivalent of 120 credits,

for entry to Level 9 (degree level), candidate need the equivalent of 240 credits.

Considerable opportunities are also available for the accreditation of prior and experiential learning.
