Show More This research degree integrates theory, practice and research to qualify you as a highly skilled clinical psychologist, able to assess and treat children and adults with serious emotional or behavioural disorders, people caught up in the legal system and others experiencing mental stress. Over four years of full-time or eight years of part-time study, you'll conduct a major, supervised, research program, complete two years of intensive coursework and undertake several clinical placements, exposing you to a diverse range of patients. The course is delivered by our School of Psychology and Psychiatry, whose researchers lead the way in investigating how such factors as addiction, culture, neurodevelopment, brain injury, ageing, mood disorders and sleep affect mental health and behaviour. Associate Professor Pamela Snow's recent research focused on showing how oral language skills, acquired at an early age, reduce the risk of offending later in life. This intense program gives you the opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge of psychological assessment, psychopathology, fundamentals of professional practice and psychological intervention theories and techniques to your clinical placements. In your third year, you begin an advanced internship, giving you the chance to build knowledge and experience in clinical child, adolescent and family psychology, advanced health psychology and other fields of study. The course includes a 60,000 to 70,000 research thesis, which accounts for 70 per cent of your assessment and allows you to thoroughly ground your understanding of an area of interest and contribute to improved clinical assessment and practice. You can study at our Caulfield, Clayton or Monash Medical Centre campuses. Entry RequirementsApplicants must have a bachelors degree with honours 1 or honours 2A in psychology from Monash University, or have qualifications which in the opinion of the Research Graduate School Committee are equivalent or a satisfactory substitute. The bachelors degree must be accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. In addition to their academic record, applicants will be selected on the basis of their personal suitability for clinical psychology, with factors such as referees reports and presentation at a selection interview considered.
