Show More The GSEHD program in Special Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners is one of only eight programs in the country that prepares educators to meet the cultural, language, social and learning needs of a growing number of culturally and linguistically diverse, and/or exceptional students. The program emphasizes culturally responsive instruction, assessment and service practices in order to prepare professionals to distinguish—and differentiate appropriately—between students with a disability and students who are in the process of second language acquisition. The M.A. program combines 45 credit hours of coursework with field-based experience and mentoring. It is nationally recognized by NCATE and leads to K-12 certification in ESOL, special education and bilingual special education. The program also offers a six-course graduate certificate as well as emphasis areas under the Special Education Ed.S. and Ed.D. All coursework is offered either face-to-face or online. Entry Requirements- Bachelor's degree - Official Transcripts - Either the GRE or Millers Analogies Test (MAT) is acceptable in meeting the requirement for applying. - Two letters of recommendation are required. - Statement of purpose - Current resume
International Applicants Applicants whose native language is not English or who are not citizens of countries where English is the official language are required to submit either TOEFL or IELTS scores in addition to the GRE or MAT. Tests must be taken within 2 years from the intended term of entry. Applicants who receive a TOEFL score below 80 (internet-based test) or an IELTS band score less than 6.0 are not eligible for admission to the University. Scores between 80-99 on the TOEFL and between 6.0-7.0 on the IELTS will require an English for Academic Purposes course within the first semester of enrollment - course information will be included on the admission decision letter.Applicants may be waived of the English language testing requirement only if: (1) Native language is English or (2) the applicant has at minimum 2 years of course study from an institution where English is the native language.
