Students in a general Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program without a major, option or minor may progress and graduate if they achieve an overall grade point 4.00 (C-). A subject or field of specialization, option or minor that form a student's program.

Entry Requirements

For a general degree without designation, all students, including those transferring from another university, must complete at this university a minimum of 5.0 senior credits (or equivalent).

Courses taken on a Letter of Permission at another university, or cross-registered at the University of Waterloo, or granted transfer credit upon admission do not meet residence requirements.
Credits earned by students who spend a year on an exchange program abroad in a program approved by Wilfrid Laurier University, will be considered as Laurier credits for purposes of residence requirements.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts in General Studies is to prepare students to succeed in challenging positions in business, industry, and not-for-profit organizations. The program allows students to individually tailor their online college program to combine a substantial core set of general education courses with an emphasis on courses in career-related areas.

Our online students can design an undergraduate program that can more readily meet their career and personal-development goals. Students will learn concepts and skills from a broad base of career-related areas to create solutions to contemporary problems. Students will possess the critical skills needed to integrate and complement their individual interests, abilities, and intellectual and practical concerns.

AAU has only one admissions requirement - you must have a high school diploma or a GED® test credential.

Program Entrance Exams

Certain programs may require students to complete an entrance exam prior to enrollment. Admissions representatives are responsible for placing students into the appropriate entrance exam during the admissions process. Any student that does not pass a program required entrance exam will not be allowed to enroll in that particular program.

AAU Orientation
-------------------------

Students wishing to enroll into AAU programs are required to successfully complete the AAU new student orientation. The orientation course is offered at no cost to the student and is a non-semester credit course. Students are required to successfully complete the orientation course prior to the start of their first semester. The purpose of this course is to expose students to AAU's policies, prepare them for what they will experience during their semester, and to help students learn how to navigate and find information through our iboard learning platform.

In order for a student to schedule the new student orientation, they must have an approved admissions application on file. Admissions representatives are responsible for scheduling students into orientation prior to the start of the students first semester. Students that complete all admissions requirements and successfully complete orientation will be granted acceptance into the university.

Any student that does not successfully complete orientation will have to defer their start date and will not be admitted into the university. These students must go through the admissions department to schedule another orientation course. Any student that does not successfully complete the orientation course after two attempts will not be admitted into the university.

The Bachelor of Arts in General Studies is designed to meet the individual needs of the student. Students in this program focus on the development of critical thinking through the study of at least three different academic disciplines or fields of study from a broad range of interest areas including, but not limited to: Information Management and Technology; Culture, Society, and the Environment; National and Local Security; and Liberal and Interpretive Arts . This major offers students a chance to develop an appreciation and grasp of several academic disciplines. General Studies students are able to build and focus upon unique areas of study without the constraints of a regular major. Students graduating from this program apply their skills and abilities in public policy, government related fields, helping professions, human resources, public relations and are prepared for graduate studies where the focus will be narrower. The program also prepares students for entry into graduate studies.

The bachelor’s degree program is open to students who possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

All students who enroll in the bachelor's degree program must enroll in COLL100 - Foundations of Online Learning as their first course.

The Bachelor in General Studies program is designed to equip students with a well rounded education that will help prepare them to pursue graduate-level degrees or advance in their careers.

In order to provide students with a liberal arts education that will be beneficial in a variety of professional settings and academic fields, this program focuses on building a strong understanding of the theory and application of essential concepts in English composition, natural sciences, social sciences, the humanities, and mathematics.

Aspen University aims to ensure that students who complete the Bachelor in General Studies program will graduate with a solid foundation in the liberal arts as well as the critical thinking and communications skills needed to successfully utilize these concepts in an array of academic and professional settings.

The Bachelor in General Studies program features a liberal arts curriculum that focuses on strengthening essential skills through fundamental core courses such as English Composition, Mathematics, Natural and Physical Sciences, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Communications.

Application

A completed application.

Statement of Goals

A statement of your goals reflecting the academic, professional, and personal goals you would like to achieve through your work with Aspen University. Your goals statement will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee as part of the application process. The statement of goals should be between 300 - 500 words.

High School Transcripts

An official high school transcript or its equivalent. Waived if student has completed at least 15 credits of college level course work.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts for all previous college credit earned.

Military Documentation (Optional)

A Military ID or DD214 for those who qualify for the military discount program.

Transfer Credit Evaluation (Optional)

Students who have earned college credit may submit a transfer credit evaluation report with corresponding course descriptions, and official transcripts from accredited institutions in order to determine which credits may be applied toward the requirements of a program at Aspen University.

Minimum GPA Requirement

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required for all previous high school or college credit.

Conditional Acceptance

Students will be Conditionally Accepted pending successful completion of CMP160 - English Composition I. Upon successful completion of CMP160 - English Composition I students will be fully Accepted. This requirement is waived for students awarded Transfer Credit for CMP160 - English Composition I.

The program lays the foundation for a broad base of knowledge with general education courses in a variety of subject areas. In addition, students can select courses from various disciplines such as business administration, marketing, criminal justice, and early childhood education to customize the program to meet their professional and personal goals.
